lia. The second coup d’état in eight months has taken place in Burkina Faso. Army Captain Ibrahim Traore announced in a statement read on national television that military leader Paul-Henri Damiba had been deposed and the government and constitution dissolved. This is reported by the Reuters news agency.

Damiba is unable to deal with the worsening Islamist insurgency. That’s why a group of officers decided to remove Damiba from his post, Traore said.

It had already become apparent that the coup d’état will take place for the second time within eight months: on Friday night there were shootings in the capital Ouagadougou, after which soldiers marked their presence in the most important places in the city.

Deposed President Damiba only came to power in a coup at the end of January.
