Last year, LGBTQ+ group Out Making Games reportedly sent a letter to development studio Rockstar, asking them to remove all transphobic content from Grand Theft Auto 5 (full name). This mainly concerned some transphobic NPCs present in the game.
It looks like Rockstar listened to them. Indeed, as many players have noticed on the Expanded and Enhanced versions of the game, some lines of dialogue from the NPCs in question have been deleted. In addition, certain jokes, which are rather caricatural and can be hurtful, would have been replaced. Similarly, a poster showing Captain Spacetoy with “interchangeable genitalia” was reportedly changed.
In new-gen GTAV/GTAO, Rockstar appear to have disabled the trans caricatures or “drag queens” from spawning outside Cockatoos. This could be following a plea from OutMakingGames last year. I hope this provides comfort to anyone who felt these NPCs depicted harmful stereotypes ?️⚧️

If the discovery has, in particular, been shared on Twitter, Rockstar has not officially communicated on this subject. We do not yet know if the studio will make an announcement to explain this choice and detail these changes.
