Elden Ring has been the game of all records in recent weeks, selling more than 12 million copies, which is simply a colossal figure for a new license and for a genre that was not yet really popular there about ten years old. But as always, nature quickly regains its rights, and GTA V took advantage of the launch of its next-gen versions to reclaim the top spot on the charts, at least in Britain.
Are we really in 2022?
Yes, almost 9 years after its release, GTA V continues to reign over game sales, and Take-Two’s pricing policy, which does not offer free upgrades for its cult game, has obviously paid off very well.
This new version therefore signs the second best launch of a dematerialized gamebehind Elden Ringcorn it also steals the latter’s place for the digital sales of the last week, passing number 1 of the sales of the week. And if we also take into account GTA Online alone, we find it in third position.
GamesIndustry.biz then reveals that 55% of sales from GTA V last week were made on PS5, while 35% of games were sold on Xbox Series.
The rest are for versions that already existed, with 6% for Xbox One, 3% for PC, and 1% for PS4. The difference between the PS5 version and the Xbox Series can be explained by the fact that the former was cheaper, with a more advantageous launch price.
All that to say that Take-Two would have been very wrong to deprive itself of next-gen versions when we see the result, and that regardless of the years, GTA V remains an unparalleled phenomenon.
