Gwent: Rogue Mage turns The Witcher’s famous card game into a roguelike

CD Project Red wishes to capitalize on its two strong licenses, Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher, and this means that spin-offs of these two series are to be expected. A first game Gwent was already released a few years ago, with several expansions that followed, but we knew that the studio wanted to reinvent the card game, this time with a slightly more solo-oriented adventure, which responded to the project name of Golden Nekker. IGN can today reveal to us what hides behind this code name, with the first images of Gwent: Rogue Mage.

A new Gwent adventure, but solo

In the idea, we could dissociate the two, but Gwent: Rogue Mage presents itself as a game extension of CD Projekt Red already released, even if this new game will be sold separately from the first, since the multiplayer part is free-to-play (we grant you, it’s not totally clear) .

In sum, Gwent: Rogue Mage will be a PvE oriented experience with roguelike mechanics, where we will have to navigate through a map of opponent by opposing until arriving at the final boss. We will start with only a few cards in our deck, with several basic decks available (four in total), and with each match, we can win new cards. Difficulty options will be present to allow everyone to enjoy the experience with the challenge they want.

The story will take place hundreds of years before Geralt was born.and will highlight the magician Alzur, who attempts to create the first Witcher. In addition to the fights, we can come across special events on the map, with crucial decisions to be made.

As one might expect, Gwent: Rogue Mage will not be released on consoles. It is only planned to be released on PC, iOS and Android. He will be sold around €9.99 with a premium edition that will add skins and map packs for the multiplayer game.

And surprised, Gwent: Rogue Mage will be available tomorrow on the platforms concerned, i.e. July 7.
