Dauser fulfills his medal dream on bars

Lukas Dauser fulfills his dream: The 28-year-old wins an Olympic medal on bars with silver. It is the only gymnastics medal for the Germans in Tokyo – it prevents the first medalless games in 21 years on the final day of the decision.

On the last day of the competition, Lukas Dauser gave the German Gymnastics Federation (DTB) the only medal at the Olympic Games in Tokyo on parallel bars. The European Championship third from Unterhaching took silver with 15,700 points. Gold went to the Chinese Zou Jingyuan (16.233), bronze went to Arican Ferhat (Turkey / 15.633).

“I can’t even realize it, it’s like in the film. I think I need a few more days,” said Dauser on ZDF. “Waiting for the evaluation was not easy, but I knew that I had a good exercise and in the end it was incredibly awesome. I’m incredibly happy.”

With this, sports soldier Dauser prevented the first medalless games for the DTB since Sydney 21 years ago. In 2016 in Rio, the gymnasts celebrated precious metal twice. Fabian Hambüchen won gold on the horizontal bar, and Sophie Scheder did bronze on the uneven bars.

Most recently, Marcel Nguyen from Unterhaching also won silver on bars in London in 2012. The Olympic champion in Rio de Janeiro five years ago was Ukrainian Oleg Vernyayev, who was recently banned for doping.
