Norway’s Haakon and Mette-Marit have apparently cut short a vacation with the royal family. The reason could be the Ukraine war.

The Norwegian Crown Prince Haakon (48) and his wife Mette-Marit (48) have apparently broken off a family vacation. They are on their way back to Norway, reports the newspaper “Dagbladet”, citing the palace. The reason may be the war in Ukraine. Haakon is to take over the duties of head of state, it is said.

The entire Norwegian royal family is currently said to be vacationing abroad together. They are said to be celebrating the birthday of Harald V. The King of Norway turned 85 on February 21. Where the royals celebrated and when the rest of the family will return home does not seem to be known.

Crown Prince Haakon only took over his father’s official duties at the end of January. King Harald V could not work because of cold symptoms. The monarch has been on sick leave several times in recent years, including in 2020 when he underwent surgery for a new heart valve.
