This is arguably the biggest leak in the industry’s young history. On the one hand, because the hacker origin of this leak got their hands on a colossal amount of data and, on the other hand, because it concerns Grand Theft Auto 6, one of the most anticipated games of the moment. The leak was revealed yesterday, Sunday September 18, by its author, who released more than 90 video clips of a build of the game under development. Our colleagues at Bloomberg quickly authenticated these sequences with Rockstar employees who wished to remain anonymous. A few hours after the appearance of the videos and screenshots, Take-Two Interactive hastened to have them removed from the video-sharing platforms and the main forums on which they circulated, in particular GTAForums where the hacker shared his loot.
the hacker also claims to have got their hands on the source codes of Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto VIand announced that he wanted negotiate an agreement with Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar after news of his misdeeds went viral on social media. The one who calls himself teapotuberhacker also presents himself as the person responsible for the recent intrusion into the servers of the company Uber, the source code of which was also stolen and following which threats to disseminate all of it in the coming months have been addressed to the company.
This leak of a very far from complete version of Rockstar’s title will undoubtedly have serious consequences for its development and the working conditions of the company’s employees, especially with regard to the possibility of working from home. For the time being, Rockstar and Take-Two have not made any comment but we should certainly hear about it again in the next few days.
