Hair care in summer: the best tips

Sun, wind and water: wonderful! But then the blonde tends to yellow, the mane is brittle, the scalp irritates … What is behind these summer hair symptoms and how you can get a grip on them: Our care coach will reveal it.

1. Dried out frizz hair

The hairstyle is more like a straw mat than a long, shiny mane, especially the top hair looks brittle, as if fluffed – frizzy.

The reasons

Heavy friction

Wind, rubbing a towel or brushing roughs up the hair, which can cause it to dry out, get caught in one another and a filigree network of loose individual hair gives the socket look.

Natural waves

Due to their curvature, curls tend to be dry per se. Plus: Hair of different lengths stands out visibly.

Heat and chemistry

Daily blow-drying, styling such as straightening and chemical hair colors loosen the structure of the hair – right down to the inside. It is then so sensitive that it becomes porous over a large area.

humidity

It absorbs dried out hair particularly well – which does not bring relief and smoothness, but only stronger frizz.

Our anti-frizz coach

Give moisture

With the right active ingredients, structure and resilience are restored: aloe vera and / or water lily extract, lipids, glycerine or hyaluronic acid – all moisturizing factors that have already proven themselves in skin care.

Use heat protection

The fine polymer film seals the hair, "conducts" the heat and thereby at least limits the damage – but the product cannot prevent it.

Rely on new technology

A hairdryer with ion technology shortens the drying time and prevents electrostatic charging of the hair. Straighteners or curling irons should have a ceramic or titanium coating and temperature control.

Go to cutting

In the salon, the broken split ends that no longer have an intact outer shell and where the core of the hair is already exposed. After that, the mane looks healthier and more well-groomed, and the hair falls loosely into each other again.

2. Irritated scalp

It itches and burns, scales trickle down on the shoulders.

The reasons

Washing damage

The scalp has a particularly large number of sebum glands that keep it and the hair supple and healthy – if only these natural guarantees of elasticity were not shampooed daily.

Dry skin

The most common symptoms of irritation and flaking are people who have had dryness all over their bodies. Speaking of dandruff: This can also be remnants of setting agents, hair wax or dry shampoo.

Stress and sun

Both weaken the immune system, the scalp reacts with itching or flaking; even after a sunburn it can start to trickle.

Detox

Special shampoos or a weekly peeling remove everything that sticks to the skin and hair and can irritate: for example dust and sand particles or residues of sun protection and styling products.

Massage in with oil, leave the oil on overnight and wash out in the morning with (mild!) Shampoo: this gives the scalp an extra dose of care and the massage improves blood circulation and nutrient supply.

Avoid irritants

If possible, allergy sufferers should use unscented shampoos and look for soothing, moisturizing ingredients such as aloe vera. If it's itchy: Cool products with mint or menthol – this has a soothing effect.

Targeted dandruff control

If they are about the size of a pinhead, a fungus can be behind them. Then it is best to rely on classics such as zinc pyrithione or salicylic acid.

Wet look

It's trendy – and if you comb in the conditioner on the beach, you have the style plus care effect!

3. Wrong colors

Indefinable, washed-out tones – pale, yellow or even greenish.

The reasons

A rough, brittle hair structure

It not only lets out moisture, but also lets in atmospheric oxygen. UnderThe influence of UV light starts an oxidation process in the hair – it fades and bleached people develop a nasty yellow tinge. In addition, for water sports fans, artificial color pigments are rinsed out faster.

Dust, nicotine

… The particles, when they are small enough, get into the cuticle and stain. Just like dye particles from hair bands, for example. If a blonde mane has a green cast, residues from pool cleaners can be the cause, for green tones in dark hair cool ash nuances in colorations.

Our beautiful color coach

Neutralize

Shampoos and conditioners with a shade of violet compensate for a yellow tinge – this overlays the yellow components in light hair (see p. 90). Green in blonde gives way with a conditioner to which a gold tone has been added (minimal amount of red pigments). Green in brown hair disappears in the same way. If even lightly pigmented color fresheners (see below) do not help, all that is left is a new coloration to get things back on track – but only after your vacation and ideally let a professional do it.

Seal shine and refresh tone

Use a conditioner after every hair wash – well-groomed hair locks in the color molecules better. Tinted shampoos and conditioners that gradually intensify the color tone give more depth. In the salon of your choice, ask about special gloss treatments, so-called glossings, that can withstand several washes. Usually it is an application with keratin, which at the same time nourishes the hair.

Make wet

Hold your head under the shower before diving: water molecules park in the porous structures – coloring substances no longer penetrate so easily.
