A few months ago, US actress Halle Bailey became a mother for the first time. Since then, she has been trying “not to drown.” Because the “Arielle” star suffers from “severe postpartum depression”.

Halle Bailey, 24, sparked pregnancy speculation with her loose dress at the MTV Video Music Awards in September 2023. It was only with the birth of her son Halo on January 7, 2024 that the “Arielle” actress confirmed her family happiness on Instagram. But Bailey has been going through a difficult time since the beginning of the year. She suffers from postpartum depression, “trying not to drown.” Halle has now revealed this on Snapchat.

Halle Bailey reveals ‘severe postpartum depression’

It’s a topic that is still not talked about enough, but that affects many women: postpartum depression. Around 15 percent suffer from it in the first few weeks after birth, making it one of the most common mental illnesses in the postpartum period. Halle Bailey is also affected.

“I suffer from severe, severe postpartum [Depressionen], and I don’t know if other new moms can relate to this, but it’s gotten to the point where it’s really bad. “It’s hard for me to be away from my baby for more than 30 minutes before I start to freak out,” she is quoted by the US magazine “People.” A few days ago, the actress made her struggle with the illness public on Snapchat. It is a challenging time – sparked by negative comments on social media about her family, according to Bailey.

Bailey feels alienated from herself

Bailey describes her baby as a “miracle.” Halo is “perfect” and “beautiful”. “When I look at him, I cry because he’s so special,” enthuses the Grammy-nominated singer. But she finds it difficult to “feel normal in her own body.” Halle Bailey states:

I feel like a completely different person. When I look in the mirror, I feel like I’m in a completely new body. Like I don’t know who I am.

Her boyfriend DDG, a US YouTuber and rapper, is a great support to her and the “greatest daddy in the world” for their son.

“You try not to drown”

Before Halle Bailey found out firsthand how serious postpartum depression was, she didn’t really take the illness seriously. A big mistake. “Now that I’m going through it, it almost feels like you’re swimming in an ocean with the biggest waves you’ve ever felt, and you’re trying not to drown. And you’re trying to gasp for air.” , Bailey sums up her emotional state.

Finally, it was important for her to emphasize that the depression had “nothing to do with my baby” – but was probably triggered by toxic social media.
