BERLIN, Oct 9 (Reuters) – Germany’s Hamburg airport suspended operations on Monday as police, alerted to an emailed attack threat, searched a plane that landed from Tehran with 198 passengers, a federal police spokesperson told Reuters.
The spokesperson described the measures, which include interrogating passengers, as normal procedure when a threat is considered serious.
No takeoff or landing is possible because the airport firefighters are participating in the search, the spokesperson explained.
Hamburg Airport warned that the measures taken could lead to flight delays and did not give an estimate for a resumption of its operations.
This incident occurs on the first day of an informal meeting between the French and German governments in Hamburg, where President Emmanuel Macron and Chancellor Olaf Scholz are expected to attend.
