Handlebar unharmed – overturned several times with car on high alpine road


An 18-year-old Slovak overturned several times in his car on the Grossglockner High Alpine Road on Thursday. The driver remained uninjured, his 18-year-old co-driver from Iran had to be flown to the BKH Lienz with injuries of indefinite degree.

The Slovak was on the way up the Grossglockner High Alpine Road at around 5 p.m. when he got off the road at bend 25 for an unknown reason and rolled over into the ditch several times with his vehicle. After about seven meters, the car came to a standstill lying on the roof. The young driver remained uninjured, his co-driver, an 18-year-old Iranian citizen, was injured to an indefinite degree and had to be flown to the Lienz district hospital in the C7 rescue helicopter.

The Winklern Red Cross and the Heiligenblut volunteer fire brigade with ten emergency services were also in action.
