What speed. Hardly the stable version of Google Chrome
98 available that the next version can already be approached.

Google just rolled out Chrome 99 to the beta channel. The opportunity to discover some of the next new features of the internet browser.

What’s new with Chrome 99?

Starting with a simple shortcut in the toolbar that should make everyday life easier for users who regularly download files. No need to search for the appropriate tab for long seconds, a shortcut could be added at the top right of the toolbar, like what is already done with Microsoft Edge . The icon turns blue when a file is being downloaded and returns to gray when it is complete. The feature isn’t enabled by default, though, which means it might need some additional tweaking before it’s available.

More interestingly, Chrome 99 will add support for handwriting recognition. An experimental feature since Chrome 91, but its API will be officially rolled out with the next version of the browser. Enough to allow developers to create note-taking and drawing applications (in the vein of Cursive launched last August) operating on different platforms without going through third-party integration.

Last notable novelty, and not least, Chrome 99 will impose some changes for adblockers. From the next version, extensions of this type will have to pass under the very controversial Manifest V3. Several ad blockers claim that this new set of rules reduces their effectiveness. Existing extensions will still be able to use Manifest V2, however, but only until next year.

Google Chrome

  • Very good performance
  • Simple and pleasant to use
  • A secure browser

Google Chrome no longer has to prove its qualities as a stable, fluid, fast, secure, ergonomic and multifunctional browser. Its interface and its mode of use are suitable for all audiences, inexperienced as informed. Criteria that still allow it today to dominate the market on a global scale, and to pursue development that inspires new web standards. But Chrome is not immune to a much less formidable aspect: the collection and commercialization of personal data by the browser which makes it a serious threat to the privacy of Internet users, all the more so when used in conjunction with other other Google services. If respect for confidentiality must, for you, take precedence over the rest, we advise you to turn to Brave or Firefox, more reliable alternatives and satisfactory performance.
