Hangar 13 formalizes a new Mafia

Last May, rumors about a new title were heard. After long months of speculation, Hangar 13 puts an end to doubts, Mafia is not over. A new title is indeed in development, and it may be desired. On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the saga, the studio interviewed several members of the team, to conclude on this revelation.

It was Roman Hladík, general manager of Hangar 13, who answered it, however remaining very stingy with information. Not that he does not necessarily want to talk about it, but we still seem far from seeing this title.

I’m happy to confirm that we have started working on a brand new Mafia project! Although it will be a few more years and we cannot say more at this time, we are excited to continue working on this franchise that we love, and to offer our players brand new stories.

Hangar 13 would therefore only be at the very beginning of the development of this new Mafia. This agrees with the information shared by Kotaku a few months ago already. We can therefore assume, if nothing changes by then, that the story of this new opus should take place in the past. It would be a prequel to the trilogy, and a new opportunity to work with these gangsters in costume.

However, we also know that Hangar 13 hasn’t been going well lately. Many departures are to be deplored, as well as a wave of layoffs. And if the use of the Unreal Engine should facilitate development, it means reduced teams to work on it.
