Happy New Year: The best 5 Android and iOS apps for your resolutions

This week I have selected 5 apps for you with which you can keep your resolutions. Things like: quitting smoking, exercising or working on your mental health etc. The idea behind this is not to put yourself under unnecessary pressure by harassing yourself with smartphones and notifications. These apps are just a support, a small push that can potentially help you to achieve your personal goals in 2022.

I have therefore tried to offer you the best possible apps from productivity applications to mobile games from the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. I try to choose apps that aren’t data traps or push you to microtransactions. In addition to my own discoveries, I am also adding the pearls found by the NextPit community and shared in the comments or forum. We publish this selection every week. So be sure to have a look at the last issue of the 5 apps!

QuitNow! (Android and iOS)

QuitNow! is perhaps the most popular app for quitting smoking and tracking your progress. First of all, you can create an ex-smoker profile by stating your actual cigarette consumption (e.g. I refused to admit that I smoke a pack a day for a long time).

Then the app offers you a daily follow-up to balance your weaning step by step. It does this by giving you numbers of how much you have saved. You can also see how many days, hours and minutes you have been smoke-free, how much life you have “regained” and a whole range of general health data.

You also have the opportunity to take on challenges posed by the app to make your weaning process playful. In any case, everyone has their own method and there is no single ideal recipe. Personally, I quit smoking cigarettes two years ago and vaping almost a year ago. Just on a whim, after many unsuccessful attempts. If you like, I will send you the power of Genki Dama Anti-Smoking if you want to quit smoking this year.

Pointagon (Android and iOS)

Pointagon is a productivity app for Android and iOS that I mentioned in one of my previous pick lists. With Pointagon and a Google account, which the app forces you to use, you can create personalized challenges that you can overcome in groups with your loved ones. You can choose a start and end date and set a set of rules.

The nice thing is that the app plays with the competitive aspect by showing a ranking of the most productive members and a win counter. The app is said to have ads, but I haven’t seen any ads during my brief use. An in-app purchase gives you access to the premium version of the app, which is only about getting rid of said advertising.

I think the gamification aspect is very nice and the combination of this system with a competitive dimension and the group effect makes it easier to motivate yourself. However, in my opinion, the user interface could have used a little more love.

FitNotes (Android and iOS)

FitNotes is a sports app for Android that serves as a training diary with which you can track your various exercises and your progress over time. An app of the same name is also available for iOS with exactly the same functionality and a very similar user interface.

Have I missed “Leg Day” again? You don’t have to ask yourself this question anymore, instead you check your FitNotes calendar to see whether or not you have trained your chicken thighs in the last week.

You can add different types of exercises for different body parts and input the number of sets, etc. This allows you to keep a precise diary of what you did in the gym. You can also sort your calendar by exercise type and even create your own routines based on the exercises you do most often. The app is free, contains no advertising and does not require a user account.

Fabulous Daily Routine Planner (Android and iOS)

Fabulous Daily Routine Planner is a wellness app for Android and iOS. The app is a mix of meditation exercises, to-do lists and planning. The idea is to get you to create a healthier daily routine that is geared towards achieving a wellness goal, such as: B. Weight loss, better self-esteem, sociability or openness to others, better sleep patterns, etc.

The application is chargeable and costs you 37 euros per year, which is billed once (no monthly subscription). You can test the application for 7 days free of charge, which I think is far too short to get a proper picture. Fabulous offers almost a dozen “journeys” with multiple stages, each with multiple tasks to introduce the famous routine.

The app promises to help you change your life “in 19 days”. Basically, it’s an all-in-one application that uses push notifications to give you a little push or even pull your hand to motivate you to pursue a healthier routine. The app contains advertising in the free version, but no further in-app purchases, except in the pro version.

Neo: Travel Your Mind (Android and iOS)

Neo: Travel Your Mind is a meditation app for Android and iOS. There are no statistics, no notifications, and most importantly, no paid subscription. Neo: Travel Your Mind is an invitation to self-reflection.

Let yourself be carried away by the inspiring landscapes, the original music and the inviting and calming voice of your meditation guide. From the home page you tap on one of the magical pebbles that will take you to a special place that suits the mood of your choice, and the practice of mindfulness meditation can begin.

I like this application because it integrates a notion of progress into the exercises, which you can visualize using a map, similar to a video game. The music is well chosen and always fits the virtual place you have chosen for the meditation. Neo: Travel Your Mind has no advertising and you do not need to set up an account. Instead, it contains in-app purchases, with which you can, for example, unlock additional music.
