Hard blow for Edeka: Now your own drink has to disappear from the shelves

The quarrels between Edeka and Eckes-Granini never end. In November, the beverage manufacturer obtained an injunction against some Edeka products and Albi GmbH. Specifically, it is about the shape of a bottle that looks too similar to the well-known Granini bottle.

Edeka appealed against it. Therefore, the case ended up in court, as reported by the “Lebensmittel-Zeitung”. The hearing took place last Tuesday at the Hamburg Regional Court. It was originally scheduled for January 11th. However, at the insistence of Eckes-Granini, it was brought forward. A verdict is now expected on January 13th.

The protection of its own brand is very important to Granini, as a spokesman said: “With the order, Edeka and Albi are banned from selling, advertising and marketing fruit juices in a bottle that, in our opinion, is an imitation of our iconic Granini bottle. We regret that it had to come to this dispute. Our goal is to protect our valuable brands and to safeguard our legitimate interests as branded goods. “

However, they are still in contact with Edeka and hope that a mutually acceptable solution will soon be found.

Edeka and Eckes-Granini have been fighting over future conditions for months. After Granini products were discontinued, Edeka replaced some of them with drinks from the company’s own Albi brand.
