This is the credo of Roon, founded in 2015 and acquired on November 27 by Harman. Aimed primarily at music lovers, the platform can manage both songs stored locally on a computer or a home server (NAS), as well as songs from certain music streaming services, such as Tidal or Qobuz.
All of these sources are managed by Roon’s software in order to automatically index all your music and group it in one place, but also to enrich it with additional data (album covers, photos of artists, biographies, presentation texts, lyrics…).
Harman buys Roon, powerful and practical software
It is therefore this powerful aggregation service that Harman has decided to offer itself. If the amount of the transaction is not specified, the independent subsidiary of Samsung welcomes this acquisition in a press release published yesterday. The firm describes Roon in particular as having “a rich interface for browsing and discovering music, compatibility with almost any audio device, and a playback engine designed to deliver the best possible sound“.

In detail, we learn that Roon will operate as an independent company within the Harman group, with its existing team. The platform’s employees will therefore continue, a priori, to work for it without any particular change of direction, even if a common mission of Roon and Harman is still mentioned.
