(dpa) For the first time since their withdrawal from the British royal family, Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan have appeared together in public in Europe. The couple attended a reception hosted by the city and the Dutch Ministry of Defense ahead of the start of the Invictus Games on Friday night in The Hague. The 37-year-old Harry showed himself in a dark suit and Meghan (40) in a white pantsuit to the cameras.

The Paralympic competition for disabled veterans was due to start on Saturday in the presence of the couple, after two delays due to the pandemic. The Invictus Games are considered an affair of the heart for Harry, which is still very important to him after his retirement from the British crown.

In the Netherlands, the two are to be closely accompanied by a camera team for a Netflix documentary. The couple have signed a multi-million dollar deal with the streaming giant.

The two had previously made an unannounced stop in their old homeland and met Queen Elizabeth II, among others. It was the first time the couple had returned to the UK together since leaving the British Crown. According to information from the DPA news agency, her two children Archie and Lilibet should not be part of the party.
