Duchess Meghan is currently threatened with a defamation lawsuit for allegedly false statements that she is said to have made about her half-sister Samantha Markle. Now she and Prince Harry could use Donald Trump as a guide to avoid being questioned in court.

Always trouble with the family: Not only Prince Harry, 38, now has a cool relationship with his relatives, Duchess Meghan, 41, continues to struggle with her. Half-sister Samantha Markle, 58, is suing the former actress for “provenly false and malicious statements” she allegedly made during her March 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, 68. The couple certainly wants to avoid a judicial questioning. There is a way to do that, which Donald Trump, 76, went before them.

Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry could be based on Trump

Should the trial go ahead, Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan could emulate Donald Trump and invoke the Fifth Amendment, which gives a person the right to refuse to answer questions or comment.

Earlier this month, a Florida judge denied a stay of investigation into the defamation lawsuit. That could mean both Harry and Meghan are forced to make statements. In the United States, a deposition is a video interview in which the subject is asked a series of questions under oath.

“These interrogations can be a kind of torture”

Although the Sussexes shared “their truth” with the world in documentaries, interviews and books in the years after they left the British royal family as senior royals, they may have a problem asking such questions of a private nature. “These interrogations can be viewed as a form of torture, particularly for high-ranking individuals who are asked to divulge private information, and can also be a test of one’s will and perseverance,” attorney Nathaniel Mack told Express.

“High-profile cases involving Governor Cuomo and President Trump have included nine-hour and 11-hour interviews,” he recalls. The reason for Trump’s interrogation was the investigation into the “Trump Organization”, the 76-year-old’s family company, which is accused of accounting fraud and tax evasion in New York. Trump invoked the Fifth Amendment of the Constitution more than 400 times. “Anyone in my position who doesn’t invoke the Fifth Amendment is an idiot,” he told Attorney Letitia James. For four hours, his answer to each of her questions was: “I refuse to testify”.

Expect “little new details” from Harry and Meghan

If the Sussexes do the same, their testimony will “most likely be limited in scope and reveal few new details,” he said. In the Samantha Markle trial, both sides can still request evidence and information to prepare. According to the judge’s recent decision, Samantha’s legal team could question Harry and Meghan before July if the case goes ahead.
