It is still unclear whether Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan will travel to London for King Charles’ coronation. A special request from his wife, Queen Camilla, could now finally dissuade the Sussexes from attending the celebrations.

Not only King Charles’, 74, descendants are set to take on special roles at his coronation on May 6, 2023, Queen Camilla, 75, also wants her family to be the focus of this special event. Her wish is likely to influence the Sussexes’ decision. Are Prince Harry, 38, and Duchess Meghan, 41, staying away from the celebrations?

Queen Camilla wants to give her grandchildren a special task

The royal consort has reportedly expressed a wish for her five grandchildren to take on a very special role during the coronation ceremony. They are to hold the canopy over their heads during the anointing, the most sacred part of the ceremony at Westminster Abbey. Prince George, 9, is also likely to play a key role as heir to the throne. Only Harry and Meghan and their children Archie, 3, and Lilibet, 1, do not appear to be on the schedule. Understandable, after all, the couple decided to step down from their roles as working royals in 2020. Still, they might be upset by the latest developments.

“What could this mean for the chilly royal relationship with Harry and Meghan? With the couple set to be invited to the long bank holiday weekend celebrations but it’s not yet known if they will actually attend, the decision to include some grandchildren but others is likely don’t cause a stir in Montecito,” speculates royal house expert Camilla Tominey in the “Telegraph”.

Are Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan finally canceling?

“Harry already felt marginalized by the late Queen and his father, who seemed to prefer public appearances with William and George to his family,” she explains. “What he’ll think of the Parker-Bowles clan taking center stage is anyone’s guess (although he’s reportedly on good terms with his step-siblings Tom and Laura, who were both invited to the 2018 royal wedding).”

In his memoirs “Spare” (German title: “Reserve”), he made it more than clear that Prince Harry grew up with the feeling of playing second fiddle next to his brother Prince William, 40. Having to back down from Camilla’s family is likely to annoy him even more. It is said that the official invitations to the coronation will not be sent out until next week. It remains to be seen whether the Sussexes will tick “yes” or “no” on the reply card.
