He doesn’t just want to talk about “Harry Potter”.

Harry Melling was ten years old when he played Dudley in Harry Potter. Even today, a lot revolves around his former role.
Harry Melling (33) is not one of those former child actors you never hear from again after a few years. But the English actor – who played Dudley Dursley in the ‘Harry Potter’ films – has had to accept that the role will always be a part of his life.
“It will always be there and I accept that,” explains Melling in an interview with the British website “NME”. “I just would like the conversation to be about what I’m doing now as opposed to what I was doing when I was 10 years old.”
From “Harry Potter” to “Queen’s Gambit”
Since then he has actually acted in numerous productions at the theater and in many films. He was seen in Marcus H. Rosenmüller’s (49) “Trautmann” in 2018 and in the adventure film “Die versunkene Stadt Z” in 2016 alongside Robert Pattinson (36) and Tom Holland (26). He accompanied Anya Taylor-Joy (26) in 2020 in the acclaimed Netflix mini-series “The Queen’s Gambit” and is currently taking on the role of Edgar Allan for the streaming service alongside Christian Bale (48) in the mystery strip “The Memorable Case of Mr Poe”. Poe (1809-1849).
“I think so,” Melling replies when asked if he’s finally been able to somehow escape the presence of the character Dudley. But he was amazed at how cross-generational “Harry Potter” was. His friends now have children who like to read – and they were happy: “Uncle Harry is Dudley!”
If anyone around Melling mentions “Harry Potter” then of course they respond. However, he believes that a certain turning point has slowly been reached. It feels to him like the narrative is changing, “which is great.”
