Harvey Weinstein is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday. His team now announces that the ex-film mogul has been admitted to a clinic.

After an appeals court made a conviction Harvey Weinstein’s (72) death has been lifted in New York, the former film mogul is scheduled to appear in court for a new hearing on May 1st. However, the 72-year-old has now been admitted to hospital due to alleged health problems.

Harvey Weinstein reportedly has a variety of health problems

Weinstein had previously been transferred from the Mohawk Correctional Facility near Syracuse to New York’s notorious Rikers Island prison. According to consistent US reports, he is currently in Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan.

In one Statement to “CBS News” Weinstein attorney Arthur Aidala said the New York City Department of Corrections determined that his client “required immediate medical attention. A variety of tests will be performed on Harvey and he will be held for observation.”

A spokesman for Weinstein confirmed the industry magazine “Variety”: “Mr. Weinstein has a history of high blood pressure, heart problems and a variety of other health problems.” The move to New York caused several health problems, which required him to be monitored more closely. Before the transfer, Weinstein was already in a medical facility connected to the other prison. In the past it was said that the former Hollywood mogul suffered from heart and eye problems, diabetes and sleep apnea, among other things.

Weinstein in custody despite overturned verdict

Weinstein was once one of the most powerful men in Hollywood. The scandal surrounding him in 2017 led to the spread of the #MeToo movement, with which women drew attention to sexual assault. He was sentenced to 23 years in prison in New York in 2020 for rape and sexual assault. A few days ago, an appeals court overturned the verdict because, in its opinion, there had been a procedural error. The public prosecutor’s office is seeking a new trial; according to US media, a hearing has been scheduled for next Wednesday.

Despite the annulment, Weinstein remains in custody as another verdict for sexual offenses against the 72-year-old in Los Angeles was made in 2022. The sentence was set at the beginning of 2023 for a further 16 years.
