17 million US dollars for the victims of the fallen film mogul Harvey Weinstein: The money will be divided among more than 50 plaintiffs.

More than 50 women who claim to have been sexually assaulted or molested by former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein (68) will receive compensation totaling 17 million US dollars (approx. 14.1 million euros). The BBC reports, among others. The lawyers of the fallen film mogul therefore accepted the amount proposed by the court.

Judge Mary Walrath stated, "The women do not want to continue litigation to seek redress." Money could never give them that anyway. The money comes from the bankruptcy estate of the Weinstein company, which went bankrupt in 2017 after extensive allegations of sexual misconduct against company founder Harvey Weinstein.

Weinstein is currently serving a 23-year prison term in New York after being convicted of multiple rape and sexual assault a year ago. In Los Angeles, he is also faced with eleven other civil lawsuits. Weinstein denies the offense to this day. In total, Harvey Weinstein accuses more than 80 women of being victims of sexual assault.
