Has Netflix found the Dexter of South Korean series?

The South Korean series “A Killer Paradox” available on Netflix revisits the world of serial killers through a particularly unhealthy game of cat and mouse!

South Korean series never cease to surprise us! Every week, productions from the Land of Fresh Morning (the nickname of South Korea, editor’s note) are added to the Netflix catalog, and are for the most part very successful with French subscribers (but also around the world).

Among the favorite genres of these k-dramas, the thriller occupies a very special place in South Korean productions. And there is no doubt that A Killer Paradox, the brand new gem to be discovered exclusively on Netflix, will in turn be successful with us, and more particularly with fans of the Dexter series!

macabre irony

The series follows the story of Lee Tang, a young convenience store employee. One evening when he replaces an absent colleague at short notice, the latter is the victim of a robbery. The aggression which brings back to him the school bullying he suffered when he was younger pushes him to defend himself, and he kills his assailant in a fit of rage.

Like Dexter, Lee finds himself haunted by his victim via hallucinatory dialogue sequences with his bloodied corpse. But the comparison with the serial killer played by Michael C. Hall stops there. In A Killer Paradox, the protagonist is not in control of his murderous impulses, but finds himself in some way a victim of this succession of macabre events.

If it is very dark in substance, the series opts for a very ironic form. The dark and scathing humor thus accentuates the dark aspect of the program, which therefore does not need to accumulate hemoglobin or gore effects to shock us. This form of macabre irony is also comparable to that of the Dexter series.

Crazy characters

Because of its many twists and turns, but also for its gallery of wacky characters, A Killer Paradox is an eight-episode series that easily lends itself to binge watching.

But its extremely original approach and its mixture of genres can also make it difficult to appreciate. Not everyone will get into it, but one thing is certain: this series will not leave anyone indifferent!

The South Korean series A Killer Paradox can now be found exclusively on Netflix !
