  • This indented square denotes self-deleting messages that have been temporarily excluded from deletion.
  • It does not replace the star as a bookmark.

If you want to find a message quickly on WhatsApp, you have to give it a star. This acts as a bookmark icon in Messenger. But now this could be threatened. Because in the beta version 2.23.1.24 of Messenger for Android cell phones, the bookmark symbol known from the browser was discovered.

Does the square “indented” at the bottom replace the star in Messenger? no As reported by the WABetaInfo fan blog, the WhatsApp bookmark symbol has a different meaning.

“Bookmark character” indicates “Kept-Messages”

According to the blog, WhatsApp marks so-called “Kept Messages”. This is a new feature Messenger is working on. It should enable you in chats with self-deleting messages to temporarily exclude certain messages from automatic deletion. This process is only temporary, if you remove the “bookmark” the message will be deleted.

The “Keep” feature is also currently still under development, which is why it is not known when it and with it the new symbol will appear in the regular version of the messenger. It also remains unclear whether anyone in the chat can bookmark a message and cancel it again, or whether the creator has to cancel it.
