Have you devoured Painkiller on Netflix? There is a series even better rated 4.3 out of 5!

Did you love Painkiller, the new Netflix series with Uzo Aduba and Matthew Broderick? Then you will also love Dopesick on Disney+. We tell you more!

Netflix subscribers have been able to discover for a few days the series Painkiller, which looks back on one of the biggest pharmaceutical scandals that has shaken the United States in recent years: that of OxyContin, a painkiller which has created a strong addiction in patients. It tells, through the portrait of three people (an addict, an FBI agent and the leader of the pharmaceutical company), how this drug was distributed on the market and how it ruined the lives of millions of people.

If this story tells you something, it may be because you watched Dopesick, a mini-series released in 2021 and visible to us on Disney +. This is also an adaptation of the investigative book by journalist Beth Macy, entitled Dopesick: Dealers, Doctors, and the Drug Company that Addicted America.

If you still haven’t discovered this little nugget rated 4.3/5 by AlloCiné viewers, then this is your chance. The series has been acclaimed by viewers for its impeccable casting, starting with Michael Keaton (a Golden Globe winner for this role), who here slips into the shoes of a doctor who was duped by Purdue Pharma, and Kaitlyn Dever, in that of a young woman who becomes addicted to OxyContin after a mine accident.

Here are the few opinions that can be read on the AlloCiné page of Dopesick:

An exceptional series on the Oxycontin scandal in the US. A painting without concession on the mercantile excesses of a family owner of a large pharmaceutical laboratory, on the compromise of the American health regulatory authorities, on the damage inflicted on ordinary people. Michael Keaton is masterful, the production is up to par. We do not come out of it both with a heavy heart and the impression of having seen a very fine series, a success.(September 24)

If I would have had one regret, it would have been not having seen this series. Indeed, from the first episodes, I saw a nugget in its genre. The proportion is controlled between the denunciation of the practices of large companies which seek only the profit with the detriment of the health of the others and the unfolding of the history, the investigation. You just have to get used to the different flashbacks through several times beforehand. I hadn’t become aware of the backstage of the pharmaceutical field in the United States and it makes me want to find out more.. and it’s scary to realize how one can be duped because of the big marketing campaign, manipulation in all corners of the healthcare system.” (Clarisse Red Jasper)

Dopesick is one of the best series of the last 10 years. Like Chernobyl, it’s a must-watch series. It’s well done, there’s Michael Keaton, and the story is true. Its main flaw is the narrative structure which proceeds by time jumps (we go from 1997 to 2007, then back to 2001, then jump to 2019, etc.) sometimes it fits well, but most of the time it loses us. Apart from that, this series is a success…but a success to despair of the human. When you know that the events are authentic (the details and some “anonymous” characters are probably fictionalized) honestly it sends shivers down your spine“. (Alla.V)

“Qualitative series that only grows episode after episode in terms of emotional and screenplay power. It is clearly the most qualitative series of this year 2021.” (Archas A.)
