Ken Pillonel is a robotics engineer who had already stood out in 2021, when he implemented a USB-C port instead of the Lightning port of his iPhone X. Today he is repeating the performance with headphones from the apple brand, the AirPods.
Ken Pillonel posted his video on YouTube on April 1. This could be an April Fool’s joke, but the fact that our man has been working for a long time to implement USB-C ports on iPhones, for example, supports the fact that he has a lot of know-how. This time around, he’s made it his mission to be able to connect Apple’s AirPods to a USB-C outlet.
Although the sound quality of Apple headphones is unanimous, many of the brand’s customers are still nostalgic for the era of wired headphones. The Cupertino company stopped selling its iPhones with its famous Earpods in 2016, supposedly for ecological reasons, but more likely to promote sales of AirPods, released the same year. The addition of a USB-C port on the AirPods allows them to be used on a wider variety of devices, including Android, but not yet on iPhones. That will change with the upcoming iPhone 15 lineup, which is expected to release in late summer, September.

The batteries of Me Pillonel’s AirPods only lasted 30 seconds. Since it was impossible for him to buy the original component from the Apple supplier, he thought that the best solution to keep his gadget would be to implement a USB-C port. We see it at work in a video in 40 second timelapse.
Apple’s AirPods are known to be almost impossible to repair, the company having taken care to drown the components in a mass of glue which makes any manipulation or change of part impossible. iFixit experts gave them a full zero in terms of repairability. Fortunately, not all headphone manufacturers follow this business model, which announces yet another ecological disaster.
