Trump mocks the late Colin Powell
Former US Secretary of State Colin Powell dies at the age of 84. During his lifetime he sometimes found critical words for Donald Trump. Now the former US president is mocking his death.
Ex-President Donald Trump commented on the death of former US chief of staff and Secretary of State Colin Powell in his own way. “He made a lot of mistakes, but anyway, may he rest in peace!” Said Trump. It is wonderful to see how Powell, “the big mistake about Iraq and, as is known, the so-called weapons of mass destruction” made, was treated so well by the “fake news media” after his death. He hopes that one day he will also receive it, it said in Trump’s message.
Powell died on Monday at the age of 84. From 2001 to 2004 he served under then-President George W. Bush as the country’s first black foreign secretary.
He was also one of the first Republicans to openly criticize Trump. In 2020 he also spoke out in favor of Joe Biden’s election. Powell’s tenure was overshadowed by the events following the 9/11 attacks, the war on terror and the start of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Before the start of the Iraq war, hardliners in the US government, citing alleged intelligence of the intelligence services on weapons of mass destruction by ruler Saddam Hussein, pressed for military action.
In February 2003, Powell finally campaigned for approval for the Iraq war in a speech before the UN Security Council, citing intelligence that was later discredited. Powell called this a big mistake years later.
