Former Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang has died of a heart attack at the age of 68.
Keqiang resigned from office in March 2023 after ten years.
China’s former premier Li Keqiang died on Friday night, according to the Chinese news agency Xinhua. Li Keqiang died at the age of 68 after a sudden heart attack. Attempts were still being made to revive him, state broadcaster CCTV reported early on Friday morning.
Li Keqiang was Prime Minister of China until March 2023, making him the second most powerful man in the country after party leader and President Xi Jinping. He held his position for ten years. There have been rumors about his health for a long time. According to diplomats in a confidential conversation, long rest breaks always had to be built into the program during his visits abroad.
In March, Li Qiang was elected Keqiang’s successor with a large majority. The 63-year-old is a close confidante of President Xi Jinping and was the only candidate.
