The case caused a lot of reaction in the media. On the night of July 1 to 2, 2023, Hedi was seriously injured by the firing of an LBD on the sidelines of the riots, in a district of Marseille. Seriously affected, he was operated on and had to have part of his skull removed. Quickly, a policeman, suspected of being at the origin of the shooting, was indicted. He spent 40 days in pre-trial detention before being released on Friday, September 1, 2023. A release to which Hedi wished to react. On the antenna BFM TVSaturday September 2, 2023, the young man first denounced a “form of injustice”. He then claimed to be “very disappointed” by this decision. “It’s going a little better. On the psychological level, with the decision that there was yesterday, it took a hit”, he assured, later specifying: “I tell myself that we are giving him the opportunity to come out, when he confessed after so many lies… it is not honest”. Regarding this evening, Hedi again stated that he was not taking part in the riots. “I don’t know what the policeman saw”assures the young man who adds: “You can’t be afraid of me, I’m nice, I didn’t make any threatening gestures, I didn’t throw anything”.
Hedi, a young man weakened by the after-effects of his injuries
Hedi was seriously injured that night and had several hospital stays. “My neurosurgeon thinks it’s fine, he was able to schedule the next operation”, he asserted. This will be very important for the young man since it will consist of giving him the missing part of his skull. However, Hedi specifies that his daily life is not always easy because he is diminished by the after-effects of his injuries. “I have paralysis from time to time, it is not easy, but there is a possibility that it will not last for life”, he confided. Concerning the evening, the young man declares once again to have been “beaten up and left for dead by four BAC policemen” after being hit by an LBD shot. “Charges that I maintain”, he indicated. In this case, four police officers from the Marseille BAC were indicted for willful violence aggravated by three circumstances: the fact of having been committed in a meeting, with the use or threat of a weapon and by the person responsible of public authority in the exercise of their functions. The released policeman was “placed under judicial supervision and he is prohibited from exercising his profession”, explained the public prosecutor of Marseille, Dominique Laurens, in a press release. All stay presumed innocent of the charges against them.
