Ninja Theory presented us with its definition of madness for Hellblade 2 and confirmed the very next release date.

This was in fact leaked the day before the presentation as part of the Xbox Developer Direct: see you with Senua on May 21 (only in digital format) on PC, Xbox Series X|S and Game Pass. The heroine, however, should not have the voices in her head as her only company during this new journey which will mark the continuation of her saga.

A story of collective madness?

After a very personal quest in the marking Hellblade first of the name, a more mature Senua this time feels invested with a mission for her people: to prevent the invasion of the Vikings on the Celtic lands where she was born. To do this, she will go to Iceland, with her share of new allies and enemies.

Still inhabited by madness (Ninja Theory having still surrounded itself with specialists in the field to represent the thing in the most judicious way possible), our heroine will however try to channel it in order to achieve her objectives.

But things obviously won’t always go as planned. In the most prosaic way possible, this will sometimes result in fighting. Their staging and gameplay in this area seem to have evolved greatly compared to the original game, for an even more visceral experience.

The very face of a graphic slap?

A large part of Ninja Theory’s presentation obviously focused on the technical performance and artistic direction of Hellblade 2. And suffice to say that the work done on this point commands even more respect than on the already impressive first opus on the subject. The title is breathtaking, both in terms of the visual aspect and the immersive atmosphere of a mythological version of Iceland.

The animation of the characters and the accuracy of the facial expressions are also strikingly realistic, and we can bet thatHellblade 2 will appear as a new benchmark in this area. In addition to the graphics, Ninja Theory also focused greatly on the sound design and the music.

Senua is constantly assaulted by the voices in her head, and the spatialization of these sounds in this sequel seems to be even more convincing. The same goes for the soundtrack, mainly supervised by the excellent Danish group Heilung. So many elements that make us shudder with impatience at the idea of plunging into madness with Senua. And that’s good, since Hellblade 2 will be released on May 21 on PC, Xbox Series X|S and Game Pass. Ninja Theory has also specified that the title will be offered only in a digital format, at a price of 50 euros.
