Hercules: Disney wants to take inspiration from TikTok videos for the live remake

This remake of a Disney classic will be designed to appeal to TikTok audiences… This is the new adaptation of Hercules which will be directed by Guy Ritchie.

After Aladdin and The Little Mermaid, Disney studios are preparing the live-action adaptation of the 1997 animated film, Hercules. As we learned last June, Guy Ritchie will be directing. Already at the controls of the remake of Aladdin in 2019, the British director had achieved great success with this modernized adaptation.

This time, Guy Ritchie will therefore stage the remake of the 1997 animated film telling the adventures of the famous son of Zeus. It was Tate Donovan (Rocketman, Argo…) who, at the time, lent his voice to the cult hero, kidnapped by Hades when he was a baby and forced to live among mortals. Assisted by the satyr Philoctetes, the young demigod gradually learned to use his superhuman strength to prove that he was worthy of living among the gods of Mount Olympus. On his way, he notably met Megara.

Faithful to the Disney classics, the animated film Hercules was a true musical story, with a catchy soundtrack, signed Alan Menken. The live-action remake is also moving in the direction of a very musical film. And the new film will want to be as innovative as possible in this area.

Variety indeed reports that the producers of the film are wondering about the best way to adapt the film to the taste of the day: “We ask ourselves questions about how to make a musical film out of it. The public today has its habits on TikTok, right?“, indicate the Russo brothers. “So what are the audience’s expectations of a musical? It could be very fun and help us to push the limits in order to produce the most modern musical comedy possible. This new Hercules Live will be produced by AGBO, the production company of Avengers: Endgame director brothers Joe and Anthony Russo.

After Aladdin (2019), Beauty and the Beast (2017) or even Mulan (2020), Hercules is therefore part of the long list of Disney animated films revisited in live-action. Before joining Olympus, spectators will discover the live action versions of The Little Mermaid (in theaters May 24, 2023), Peter Pan, Snow White, not to mention Pinocchio led by Tom Hanks as Geppetto already available on Disney + .
