The Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 is getting a big brother: the 718 Cayman GT4 RS. The new top model of the 718 family is ideally equipped for its world premiere in November: On the Nordschleife, it took the 718 without the RS abbreviation a spectacular 23.6 seconds.
Brand ambassador and development driver Jörg Bergmeister lapped the 20.832-kilometer Nürburgring-Nordschleife in a slightly camouflaged production vehicle in 7: 09.300 minutes. The shorter version with a length of 20.6 kilometers, which used to serve as a benchmark, was completed by the GT4 RS in 7: 04.511 minutes – exactly 23.6 seconds faster than its little brother, the 718 Cayman GT4.
To protect the driver, the mid-engined sports car was equipped with a racing seat. Optionally available Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires were fitted. A notary confirmed the serial condition and weight of the vehicle.
“During development, we gave the GT4 RS everything that characterizes a real RS: lightweight construction, more downforce, higher engine power and, of course, even more direct handling. The fantastic lap time on the Nordschleife is impressive proof of how clearly these improvements are noticeable in terms of driving dynamics, ”says GT vehicle manager Andreas Preuninger. “Our customers can look forward to a genuine driver’s car that is very enjoyable to drive.”
Driver Jörg Bergmeister adds: “The 718 Cayman GT4 RS is an uncompromising driving machine. It feels as agile as a go-kart on mountain roads and is still impressively stable on the racetrack. Otherwise a lap time at this level is not even possible. “
For comparison: the Porsche 911 GT3 is a good nine seconds faster, a Porsche Panamera Turbo S 20 seconds slower.
