Here is the all-new BMW i3, it’s 100% electric but it’s not for us


BMW is finally lifting the veil on its brand new i3, a 100% electric version of the current 3 Series. This should only be reserved for the Chinese market.

Like many manufacturers, BMW aims to massively green its range in the coming years. It must be said that the public authorities, whether in Europe or in the rest of the world, are particularly attached to the development of connected engines, which were to eventually replace internal combustion engines. These should then occupy a smaller and smaller share, whereas they are now the target to be shot down.

In this context, it is not surprising that many brands are offering new zero-emissions products. This is therefore the case of the Bavarian firm, which already offers several electric models in its range, including the i3, the i4 or the iX3 and iX. But now she has just lifted the veil on another novelty, which had already leak online a few days earlier.

The first electric 3 Series

This is the brand new BMW i3 eDrive35L, just made official after being seen a little early. And the least we can say is that it no longer has much to do with the little i3 that we know today. Because this newcomer is in fact this time a 100% electric version of the current BMW 3 Series. We therefore find generally similar lines, despite a few small differences.

Among them, the full grille, of course, but also the slightly redesigned lights and shield. BMW, on the other hand, does not show the rear or the interior of the electric sedan. We only know that it will ship the latest version of the brand’s infotainment system, and that’s it. The trunk volume is displayed at 410 liters, against 480 liters for the thermal version.

Equipped with a 70.3 kWh battery, this new BMW i3 can then travel around 526 kilometers on a single charge. This can then be done in just 35 minutes, allowing to go from 10 to 80% with a power of 95 kW in direct current. The electric sedan then claims no less than 282 horsepower for a maximum torque of 400 Nm, allowing it to achieve 0 to 100 km / h in 6.2 seconds.

Unfortunately, this BMW i3 eDrive35L will only be reserved for the Chinese market, taking advantage of an 11 mm longer wheelbase and calibrated suspensions to appeal to customers in the Middle Kingdom. In France, it will therefore be necessary to turn to the BMW i4, which offers similar performance depending on the version.
