The campaign to declare your income will begin within a few weeks. It will then be time to choose whether or not to declare your actual expenses. For the use of a vehicle for commuting, the most common method is to use the kilometer scale. The latter allows you to deduct your expenses for your home-work journeys and/or the costs of using your vehicle for your professional needs. This flat rate scale includes fuel but also insurance and even wear and tear on the vehicle and its equipment.

What is the difference with the fuel cost scale? It concerns the mixed use of a car or two-wheeler, whether personal or professional. This could be a vehicle that belongs to you or a company vehicle that belongs to the company in which you work. Exclusively professional vehicles (service vehicles) are excluded. Fact, the use of this specific scale, that for fuel costs, concerns a minority of people real costs: for example employees using a long-term rental or leasing service and whose costs are limited to gasoline or diesel, or even self-employed people with a mixed-use vehicle (professional and personal).

In order to know if it is more interesting to opt for the fuel cost scale rather than the kilometer scale, you will need to also declare insurance or maintenance costs using supporting documents. It is through the addition of fuel costs and related costs that you will be able to know if the fuel scale is a better option than the kilometer scale package.

Here is the scale for fuel costs updated for the 2024 declaration

Each year, the tax administration updates the scale of fuel costs per kilometer. The bar sets a kilometer cost price diesel, super unleaded and LPG for the year 2023 and depends on the fiscal power of the vehicle and the fuel type used. Please note, actual consumption or CO2 emission level are not taken into account.
