here is the exceptional autonomy of the electric truck and its 37 tons of loading

Elon Musk announces that his electric truck, the Tesla Semi, managed to travel a distance of more than 800 km on a single charge, with a load of more than 37 tons! A real feat and a revolution for the transport of goods.

Tesla Semi

Many people are impatiently awaiting the massive arrival of hydrogen to decarbonize the transport industry, even if it is not necessarily a good idea as we have seen recently. What if a technological solution already existed? This is what Elon Musk promises with his electric truck, the Tesla Semi.

We already knew that Tesla’s electric truck was going to revolutionize the field of road transport, thanks to ridiculously low consumption and a very affordable selling price. This should allow companies to save in the long term thanks to the cost of electric charging, which is lower than a full tank of diesel.

But all this was until now very theoretical. It’s without counting on a tweet from Elon Musk published on November 27. This announces that Tesla has succeeded in traversing a 500 mile (about 800 km) trip with the Tesla Semi carrying an 81,000 pound (about 36.7 ton) load. We will not know more for the moment on data such as the average speed and the maximum speed on this course.

Deliveries start soon

Tesla plans to start the first deliveries of its electric truck, the Semi, from December 1. Its first client is none other than the American group PepsiCo. Elon Musk’s firm will hold a special conference for this event, which should allow us to learn a little more about the technical characteristics of the Semi.

As a reminder, the Tesla Semi is available in two versions, one with a range of 500 km and the second with a range of 800 km. We do not yet know the capacities of the two batteries. Recharging is fast, with 30 minutes to go from 10 to 80%, surely with a power close to one megawatt (1,000 kW).

Note that Tesla is not the only company in the electric truck niche. Renault recently unveiled its electric trucks, with a slightly more timid technical sheet. There is talk of a range of 300 km and a “fast” recharge in 2.5 hours up to 250 kW direct current.
