Crdit Agricole wants to fight against theft through deception. From now on, to withdraw money from certain ATMs of the brand and above a certain amount, the code will be requested twice.
Type your bank card code twice when withdrawing cash to avoid theft by trickery. This is what Crdit Agricole now offers in some of its ATMs. A user of from 50 euros, your personal code will be requested a second time to confirm your withdrawal request.
A proposal that raises questions among certain users, but which is not necessarily intended to be generalized. This security will not be applied everywhere or all the time. Each fund decides the amount from which this double authentication is necessary, specifies Crdit Agricole to the Parisian.
A protective measure for customers
This one-off measure will also not be applied in all of the bank’s ATMs, explains Crdit Agricole, for whom this double authentication aims mainly to protect vulnerable people in certain places where this type of theft is frequent.
This measure is not national, it is put in place with the funds which request it and which often face an increase in theft by deception, explains Crdit Agricole. The sign reminds us of how this type of theft works: It’s something as old as time, it’s been around for a very long time. There’s someone who comes to distract you while you’re typing in your code, then there’s another person who comes along to the side who enters the amount and takes the money. It is to avoid this that we request a second code.
