The ceiling of the Popular Savings Book (LEP), reserved for the most modest households, will increase from 7,700 euros to 10,000 euros from October 1, MoneyVox has learned. A decree will be published next week in the Official Journal.
This is a measure eagerly awaited by many holders of the Popular Savings Account (LEP). Reserved for low-income households, this guaranteed investment, paying 6% net of tax, will see its payment ceiling increase from 7,700 to 10,000 euros from October 1st, MoneyVox learned this Thursday from the Minister of the Economy. The measure will be confirmed by the publication of a decree, at Official newspapernext week.
This revaluation of the LEP ceiling was announced in mid-July by Bruno Le Maire, following the recommendation of the Governor of the Bank of France. We will try to put it in place by October 1 so that all those who want to protect their savings against inflation can do so, the Minister of the Economy explained at the time on TF1. Objective therefore met.

9 million French people could benefit from LEP
Unchanged since 2002, the LEP ceiling is currently almost three times lower than that of the Livret A, set at 22,950 euros since 2013. A difference which was becoming difficult to maintain when today, half of the LEPs are at the ceiling.
By raising the LEP threshold to 10,000 euros, the public authorities intend to accelerate the opening of this savings account. Of the 18.6 million eligible people, 9.7 million had opened one at the end of May. Nearly 9 million individuals therefore still do not benefit from the LEP. With this measure, the Banque de France’s objective is to cross the 12.5 million LEP mark by summer 2024.
While inflation will still reach 5% in 2023, according to INSEE projections, the LEP is today the best risk-free savings product with a rate of 6%, twice as high as that of the Livret A, 3% gel until January 2025.
