Too salty and composed of ingredients considered to be of poor quality, the breads of this large bakery chain are not good for your health according to a study carried out by UFC-Que Choisir.

Bread is one of the foods most consumed by the French, who buy it in bakeries but also often in large stores. The UFC-Que Choisir association took an interest in four major channels in its May 2023 issue : Paul, Marie Blachère, La Mie Câline and Louise Bakery : “We measured the amount of salt and fiber, and analyzed the quality of ingredients, in white baguettes, wholemeal breads and country breads”.

This very interesting study reveals which, according to the consumer association, is the best bakery chain. This is the Marie Blachère bakery, which obtained a score of 16 for its wholemeal bread and 13.3 for its white baguette. Find out what is the sign that is at the bottom of the ranking.

This bakery chain to avoid according to UFC-Que Choisir

According to the consumer association, the chain Louise’s Bakery offers lower quality breads. The white baguette gets a score of 7.9 and the wholemeal bread only 8.5. The reason ? Products considered too high in salt and poor quality ingredients.

Please note, buying artisan bread in a bakery does not guarantee that you will consume a better quality product: “You may have been buying every morning or every evening, for years, from your baker, a baguette with Nutri-Score D and sprinkled with additives. Junk food, in short” explains the association. Their advice: opt for wholemeal breads and organic flourswhich guarantee better nutritional qualities and fewer pesticide residues.
