Here’s a remake of the Resident Evil 2 remake, with 1,700 fixed cameras

A modder had fun adding 1,700 fixed cameras in the remake of Resident Evil 2. The goal ? Bring back the experience of the original 1998 game.

In 2019, Capcom launched a remake of Resident Evil 2, a successful homage to the cult horror game from 1998. To convince fans, the Japanese studio has modernized many elements. For example, he did not use the original fixed camera shots, which nevertheless contributed to the feeling of fear (since we did not control the point of view). Some people seemed very attached to it, like this modder who decided to add fixed cameras in the remake.

Spotted by PC Gamer on March 13, the mod is called “RE2R Classic” and is based on the following principle: making a sort of remake of the remake to return to the essence of the original game. Its creator, alphaZomega, even took the trouble to add more than 1,700 fixed cameras to Resident Evil 2 so that it can be fully playable from this perspective, from the first minute to the last.

It’s the remake of Resident Evil 2, which plays like it did in 1998

When you start the game, you will see your character from the point of view of a fixed camera that shows a scene in a cinematic way. Then, when you change shots, the camera will change based on your position, with a smooth transition depending on where you’re going », explains alphaZomega on the Nexus Mods portal, where his project is available for free (a PC is required).

He recommends playing with a control scheme reminiscent of 1998 gameplay — comparable to the movements of a tank, using the D-pad. We really want to rediscover the flavor of the era, with a touch of nostalgia that can please and compensate for the flaws of such an old-school experience (spoiler: it’s ultra rigid). alphaZomega still offers various options to adjust the gameplay with a little more flexibility.

Besides the hundreds of added camera shots, this mod relies on other essential changes to make Resident Evil 2 digestible with such a “handicap”. Thus, there is auto-aim to get rid of enemies more quickly by shooting at vulnerable areas, while visual changes make it easier to spot objects in the environments. alphaZomega has thought of everything for this “RE2R Classic”, which could be an official DLC given the care given.
