Here’s how much you’d get paid if you worked in tech in the US

A study of 500 of the largest companies reveals which companies have the highest salaries in the United States.

Want a change of scenery for sunny California? You could, in addition to getting a perfect tan throughout the year, earn more money by being recruited by one of the giants of the web.

Wages on the rise in 2021

the wall street journal conducted a study of the different median salaries for companies in the S&P 500, i.e. among 500 of the largest companies listed on the American Stock Exchange, the Dow Jones or the NASDAQ.

This analysis first indicates that the average salary of these companies has increased in 2021. Of the companies listed, 150 of them pay their employees with an average salary above $100,000 per year. Conversely, 44 companies see their employees pocketing an amount below $40,000 a year.

Among the most profitable companies, we obviously find technology companies. These well-established brands in Silicon Valley are also among the most powerful companies in the world and dominate for the most part the first places, with nevertheless some marked disparities.

Meta and Alphabet are the most generous companies with their employees

If you want to make the most money each year, you will have to turn to Alphabet. The parent company of Google and YouTube has an average salary in 2021 of $295,884. Not far away, in Palo Alto, Meta (Facebook) offers an almost identical salary at $292,785, an increase of 11% in one year.

Broadcom (which has just bought VMware), NVIDIA or even Twitter and Netflix also remain good starting points for your career with median salaries above $200,000 a year.

Among the GAFAM with much less generous average salaries, we find Apple and Amazon with amounts paid on average of $68,254 and $32,855 respectively. These figures are misleading, however, since wages in these two companies have jumped in one year by nearly 20%. The two companies are not to be pitied from a financial point of view but also employ store salespersons or employees in their warehouses, with much lower salaries, which bring down their annual average.
