Here’s how often to change your sheets

Between cream residues, perspiration, saliva, or even dust, the sheets, in which we spend an average of 8 hours a night, quickly become breeding grounds for bacteria. That is why it is essential to wash them regularly.

But more precisely, what is the ideal frequency? It really all depends on your lifestyle.

Indeed, if you are one of those who prefer to shower at night, it is best to put your pillowcases, fitted sheets and duvet covers in the washing machine every 10 days. If you also sleep alone and never snack in bed in front of a movie, you can do it every two weeks.

On the other hand, if you swear by the morning shower and, moreover, you like to fall asleep completely naked, it is strongly recommended to wash them once a week. Especially if some nights your dog or your cat comes to keep you company, depositing a few hairs in the process.

and at what temperature?

But you still have to wash them at the right temperature. As a reminder, when we sleep, we deposit millions of dead skin cells on our sheets, on which the mites feed, microscopic arachnids, invisible to the naked eye.

The latter are often accompanied by their acolytes, the mushrooms. To get rid of these parasites and bacteria, it is better to opt for a machine wash at 60°C.

Regarding duvets, washing at 30°C or 40°C twice a year is sufficient. As for the pillows, it is advisable to wash them every two months if they are made of synthetic material and every six months if they are made of feathers and down.
