Heroes City Superman Edition: a studio accused of stealing a demo from itch.io and selling it on Steam

On PC, most developers and publishers sell their games on Steamthe platform of Valve is still the benchmark and recently beat its simultaneous attendance record. But she’s not infallible and nowan unscrupulous studio sells a demo for ten euros.

This is the story told by Tyson Butler-Boschma, a developer who has fun in his corner creating fun experiences. In recent months he has released on itch.io A Superman Style Flight Experience (UE5), a game with a character inspired by Superman evolving in a city designed under Unreal Engine 5 and that we had already seen in The Matrix Awakens: An Unreal Engine 5 Experience. Talking about gambling is actually an understatement, we can just wander, on foot or by flying, in the streets. And to avoid problems with DCthe developer offers this experience for free, specifying that the character played is not Superman.

But now, at the beginning of the month, Hero Game Studios launched on Steam Heroes City Superman Edition, an action game with the hero of DC Comics. The developers, unknown to the battalion, promise updates with helicopters, multiplayer, motorbikes, customization and missions, and they sell their game for €10.79. But yes, Heroes City Superman Edition is indeed the experience designed for free by Tyson Butler-Boschma. Under his pseudonym TJ ATOMICAhe obviously left a negative evaluation on Steam to report the scam, claiming to have been blocked from the forums Steam by Hero Game Studios and be accused of lying.

The unknown studio indeed claims that Tyson was working with him, but left the team, now taking ownership of the project, as sales are good. Tyson refutes and explains that he does not know these people, but in doubt where a studio would have indeed developed a title similar to his (Tyson explains that he used assets fairly widespread), so he bought Heroes City Superman Edition to verify that it was his game. And, yes, it is his “Superman Style Flight Experience” normally free.

Hero Game Studios even went even further by blocking the video for a few hours Youtube by Tyson Butler-Boschma which he had released earlier in the year to show off his acting, due to copyright issues. The video is back and Tyson announces he has contacted Steam to remove Heroes City Superman Edition sales, but Valve seems to be turning a deaf ear for the moment… Except that where Tyson has been smart enough to avoid links with Superman, Hero Game Studios mentions the name of the superhero in the title, DC and Warner Bros. could soon poke their noses into this affair.

At least, it is clear that gamers want a video game with Superman, but a title that isn’t a stolen free demo to rip off fans would be better. As a reminder, Warner Bros. Games Montreal would have canceled a game with clark kent at Metropolis few years ago. Superman will still be present in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, but as an antagonist. You can find products derived from the superhero on Amazon.
