HIMARS attack in Oleschky?
Occupation mayor’s home explodes

Last September, the Ukrainian collaborator Olerksy Zhuravko died in a Ukrainian rocket attack in the Kherson region. A few months later, Ukraine appears to be targeting his nephew: Ukrainian and Russian media report an explosion in his apartment building.

According to unconfirmed reports, Ukraine has tried to kill the Russian-installed mayor of the occupied city of Oleshky in the southern Ukrainian region of Kherson. Accordingly, the house of the Ukrainian collaborator Heorhiy Shurawko exploded on Saturday. He reports that public service broadcaster of Ukraine citing Yevhen Ryschchuk, the actual mayor of Oleshky in exile.

According to him, Shuravko’s house exploded between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Saturday evening. However, it is unclear whether the collaborator was at home. Accordingly, he should not have lived there for a long time, as Ryschtschuk reports. However, he also reports that residents of the city of Zhuravko want to have seen in the house shortly before the explosion.

Russian media also confirm the explosion in Oleschky. “The house was destroyed,” quoted the state news agency TASS a spokesman for the regional occupying forces. According to him, Zhuravko was not injured in the attack. “He wasn’t in the house at the time,” he says. The attack was carried out with a HIMARS missile. Investigators have secured corresponding fragments in the rubble, it is said.

Flood aid stopped in Oleschky

Oleshky is located in southern Ukraine on the eastern bank of the Dnipro across from the regional capital of Kherson. In May 2022, Russian occupying forces appointed Zhuravko mayor of the small town of once 25,000 people. In June, Oleschky was severely affected by flooding after the destruction of the Kachowka dam. At the time, it was reported that Russian troops fired on flood workers and stopped rescue attempts.

Since the beginning of the war, Ukraine has repeatedly targeted compatriots who cooperate with Russia in occupied territories. So it was already last September Oleksiy Zhuravko, the uncle of Heorhiy Zhuravko, killed in a Ukrainian missile attack in the Kherson region. He too had collaborated with Russia.
