Hogwarts Legacy will make history with this achievement

Hogwarts Legacy is in the running to defeat a license whose commercial success is no longer in doubt. And that’s no joke, since it would simply be historic.

Even though Hogwarts Legacy: Hogwarts Legacy wasn’t nominated in a category at the Game Awards, it still remains one of the biggest releases of the year. Its sales figures prove it, and we have some exciting news on this subject. Avalanche Software’s title may be poised to take down a legendary franchise that has dominated the market for a long time.

Hogwarts Legacy VS Call of Duty MW3

In the United States, a certain tradition has established itself for 15 years in the video game sphere. Every year, we are entitled to the results of game sales, and overall, we always find one license at the head of the pack: Call of Duty. She is almost unbeatable. The only times this happened was in 2013 and 2018. Indeed, at the time, GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 managed to surpass the number of copies sold of the FPS, but these are exceptions . However, Hogwarts Legacy is potentially going to get there too.

The throne is not only reserved for Call of Duty and Rockstar Games productions. At least, that’s what the latest from Avalanche Software suggests. The return to Hogwarts was a nice surprise for most players, and we are not really surprised by its success. We’re still talking about the Harry Potter universe. In November 2023, in the USA, it completely outpaced Call of Duty Modern Warfare III in the physical and digital sales rankings. If it continues like this, it could well become the best-selling game of the year in this country.

Well, it goes without saying that he is closely followed by the Activision franchise. Especially since MW3 was released more recently than Hogwarts Legacy, and yet it has already propelled itself to second place on the podium. That said, Hogwarts Legacy does have one thing going for it. Indeed, its Nintendo Switch version has just arrived. Regardless of its quality, it landed during the Christmas holiday season. We therefore imagine that she will end up under a lot of fir trees. To be continued, but if the game ends up defeating Call of Duty in the United States, it would be historic.

A complicated launch for the Switch version

The Switch version of Hogwarts Legacy was unfortunately not unanimous. The portage is described as a disaster for various reasons. Digital Foundry gave its opinion on the matter, and it was merciless. Simplified lighting, 576p in portable mode or 720p in docked mode, frequent drops to 20fps, anti-aliasing, in short, it is not recommended. As a result, the developers reacted, and a patch was deployed. From what we have been able to understand, it is good for the game, particularly in terms of loading times when entering/exiting Hogsmeade shops. Here are the rest of the changes in the update:

  • The book on the pedestal will no longer be a victim of clipping
  • Improved loading times when entering and exiting Hogsmeade stores
  • Fixed texture flickering when the character is standing at a certain distance at the Golden Perch
  • Fixed a bug where it was impossible to destroy pillars after restarting a mission
  • Fixed a number of issues related to saves
  • Additions and changes for game credits
  • Fixed an issue where a line of dialogue was repeated that concerns the mission to save the phoenix. When a save was reloaded, this line reappeared even though the phoenix was not there
