Toni Kroos returns to the German national football team for the home European Championships.
Around three years after his retirement, Kroos will play for the German national football team again. The 34-year-old announced this on Instagram on Thursday.
Kroos was the “metronome” in the midfield of the 2014 World Cup team, and the loss in the 2021 European Championship round of 16 against England at Wembley was his last of 106 international matches to date (17 goals). Kroos continues to pull the strings at Real Madrid and is one of the safest passers in the football world.
The national team is also challenged
He had expressly kept the option of a comeback open in recent months; national coach Julian Nagelsmann called it “an interesting idea”. Kroos will be back at the March international matches against France in Lyon (March 23rd) and against the Netherlands in Frankfurt/Main (March 26th).
At the EURO in Germany (June 14th – July 14th), the home team will face Switzerland, Scotland and Hungary in Group A. The duel with the national team will take place on June 23rd in Frankfurt.
