Honda e:NY1: a new all-electric SUV to accompany the Honda e in Europe


Honda is aiming for carbon neutrality by 2030, but its electric vehicle lineup currently only consists of the Honda e city car. Cute, but not very versatile, it will now have an all-electric little brother, the e:NY1 SUV (Anyone) built on the modular e:N Architecture F platform, around which the H-RV is already built.

The silhouette of the new e:NY1 is therefore very similar to that of the H-RV, with the exception of a closed grille that is 5 cm longer, as well as a slightly raised ground clearance due to the layout of the battery in the floor. However, Honda specifies that the new chassis, exclusively developed for electric vehicles, “guarantees increased torsional rigidity, achieved by using high-strength steel for 47% of the total body weight of the e:Ny1”. We don’t have the full value of this one, but it should be well under 1.8t.

The powertrain is completely revised here since it is an electrical mechanism located at the front (traction) and developing 204 hp (150 kW) for 310 Nm of torque. This engine is powered by a 68.8 kWh CATL battery for a combined range of 412 km, according to the WLTP cycle. The press release announces a DC fast charging capacity of 10 to 80% in 45 min. The value is a priori a little disappointing, but would save battery longevity, said the constructor.

Inside, the new e:NY1 offers a modern cabin with digital on-board instrumentation and, above all, a large 15.1-inch touchscreen set up like the Ford Mustang Mach-e. On the lower part, there are the touch controls for air conditioning, the central part being devoted to assistance, the upper dedicated to navigation.

The price is not yet announced, but it should be positioned against the e-2008, Kia Niro EV and the future Kona Electric. The first orders should be accessible during the summer of 2023.
