Honda unveils its plan for electric motorcycles and scooters: it makes you want

On the program for the Japanese manufacturer Honda: no less than ten electric motorcycles and scooters planned over the next three years. The goal? Achieve carbon neutrality in the 2040s.

Will Honda’s energy transition be faster in the world of two-wheelers than in that of four-wheelers? There is a good chance to believe the calendar put forward by Honda for its future models of 100% electric motorcycles.

The Japanese firm has just announced a vast product plan with at least ten models of electric motorcycles and scooters worldwide by 2025 and aims to boost annual electric sales to one million units over the next five years, and to 3.5 million units (or 15% of total sales) from 2030.

An electric two-wheeler for all types of customers

Honda does not intend to impose electricity on its customers, however, several thermal models will remain in the catalog and several new models equipped with a combustion engine will arrive in the coming years. Honda wants to continue to offer motorcyclists fun vehicles to driveeven if the technology evolves and the energies too.

It plans to release electric motorcycles and scooters for everyday life, others for professionals, and others for leisure. But how will this be characterized in practice? For professional two-wheelers, Honda will offer models from the Honda e series, and in particular the Business Bike, a vehicle already used by the Japan Post and the Vietnam Post Corporation for mail delivery. These models are equipped with exchangeable batteries, which solve the problems of autonomy and charging time.

For everyday use, Honda will launch two new electric models between 2024 and 2025 in Asia, Europe and Japan. The brand has not given any indication concerning the models in question, but it could be a thermal equivalence to the Forza 125 and the X-ADV. The model on the far right in the photo that illustrates the article also seems to take up the lines of the current X-ADV, but modernized.

At the same time, Honda is working on electric scooters and bicycles (not pedelecs, so without pedals at first sight), less powerful, but widely used on a daily basis, especially in China, where Honda has partnered with local suppliers. Five compact and affordable electric two-wheelers are expected to arrive by 2024 in Asia, Europe and Japan.

For the leisure category, Honda is developing three full-size electric motorcycles for Japan, the United States and Europe between 2024 and 2025. These could be the models teased in the cover illustration. At first glance, these models seem to take the lines of the current Honda CB600R, a mid-size roadster that particularly appeals to young licensees, but also to the not so young.
