With an overall score of 158, the Honor Magic 6 Pro manages to climb to first place in the world on the podium of the best smartphones in the photo category, thus ahead of the Huawei Mate 60 Pro+ and theiPhone 15 Pro Max.
If you didn’t know, DXOMARK remains among the reference sites for electronic product evaluations. Specialized in the field of photography, the site’s engineers and technicians have numerous tools at their disposal, and establish a number of laboratory protocols, to measure and evaluate the performance of the products tested.
A few days ago, it was the Magic 6 Pro which was in the spotlight, in turn being the subject of careful examination. The observation is clear: the device obtained “ excellent results in almost all test areas, without showing any real weaknesses “.
Honor Magic 6 Pro: the best cameraphone on the market?
Presented during MWC 2024 last February, the Honor Magic 6 Pro had already captivated us during our first handling. Equipped with a beautiful 6.8-inch OLED screen, and powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, it is above all its impressive photo modules that managed to seduce us.
Based on a 1/1.3 inch 50 MP main sensor with variable aperture from f/1.4 to f/2.0 and optical stabilization, as well as a 50 MP ultra-wide angle and f/2.0 aperture, it is 2.5x 180 MP 1/1.49 inch periscopic telephoto lens which caught our attention, giving hope for strong potential for the new flagship of the Chinese brand.
The Magic 6 Pro obviously couldn’t escape DXOMARK’s rigorous reviews to accurately measure its performance in photo, video and zoom quality. Unsurprisingly, the device obtained exceptional results, to the point of establishing itself as the best smartphone for photography on the market, according to the criteria and requirements of the DXOMARK teams.
A smartphone that impresses in photos and videos
In addition to being a significant improvement compared to its predecessor, the Honor Magic 5 Pro, the Magic 6 Pro manages to outperform many high-end devices known for their many qualities in terms of photography, such as the iPhone 15 Pro Max from Apple, the Find X7 Ultra from Oppo, or even the Mate 60+ Pro from Huawei.
Honor’s latest toy stands out in particular for its bright and natural colors, both in photos and in video, its fast and precise autofocus in all circumstances, as well as its remarkable depth of field during group photos.
Despite its countless qualities, the Magic 6 Pro nevertheless seems to display unnatural details (especially on faces) in low light conditions. In video, HDR mode does not always seem operational, especially when the lighting in the room is not optimal. Our colleagues at DXOMARK have indeed been able to observe the presence of artifacts in certain situations.
In any case, on all the smartphones tested to date by DXOMARK, the ultra wide-angle camera of the Honor 6 Pro undoubtedly manages to do well by obtaining the best score (160). By obtaining the final score of 158 points, the latest toy from the Chinese manufacturer therefore becomes the new king of smartphones dedicated (among other things) to photography.
