Honor reminds us why we shouldn’t jump on the Galaxy Z Fold 5

Honor is expected to showcase a new foldable smartphone at IFA in Berlin in a few weeks. The Honor Magic V2 has something to compete with Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 5.

Samsung has now become accustomed to renewing its range of foldable smartphones during the summer. In 2023, we discovered and tested the Galaxy Z Fold 5, still in book format. Samsung’s flagship offers a good performance, but we feel that a little more competition could motivate the manufacturer to further improve its copy.

That’s good, the competition is finally coming, and in terms of large format foldable smartphones, it is mainly driven by Honor. The Chinese giant intends to respond to the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 in the coming weeks.

Towards an Honor Magic V2 in France?

Honor has released a pretty explicit invite for its scheduled talk at IFA Berlin on September 1. It clearly suggests a folding smartphone, especially with the phrase ” unfold the next day “. In July, Honor unveiled the impressive Magic V2 in China.

This foldable smartphone offers on paper a very successful design with a thickness of 9.9 mm folded (against 13.4 mm at Samsung) for a weight of 231 grams, against 253 at Samsung. However, Honor offers a more generous display area with a 6.43-inch screen outside and 7.92 inches inside. The 5,000 mAh battery against 4,400 mAh for fast charging up to 66W also makes our mouths water. Much more than the Honor Magic Vs launched in May which had rather disappointed us.

The Honor Magic V2 therefore has everything to be a very serious competitor to the Galaxy Z Fold 5. All that remains is to release it in France. A conference in Berlin during the IFA show seems the ideal place to announce this international marketing. It will then be necessary to find out at what price the brand will offer its smartphone. In China, it is marketed from 8,999 yuan, or approximately 1,130 euros excluding tax.

With this conference, Honor reminds us that it may be better to wait a little before rushing to a Galaxy Z Fold 5. A very interesting rival seems to be about to land.
