M6 star host Stéphane Plaza will be tried by the criminal court at the end of the summer for physical and/or psychological violence committed against two former companions.

The real estate agent, popularized by his various programs on M6, was summoned on Tuesday to be heard in a free hearing at the central police station in Paris.

He was then taken into custody and was confronted by at least one of the complainants, according to a source close to the investigation.

At the end of his police custody, he was presented to a public prosecutor who gave him a summons for habitual physical and psychological violence by a partner between August 2018 and April 2022 against one of his former partners, as well as that for habitual psychological violence by a partner against another woman between December 2021 and September 2022, detailed the Paris prosecutor’s office, requested by AFP.

An incapacity for work of more than eight days was established for the two women, said the same source.

“The court will assess whether the charges, currently sufficient to lead to prosecution, are also sufficient to lead to a conviction,” underlined the prosecution, recalling that “until then the defendant (was) still presumed innocent”.

A judge of freedoms and detention must still rule on his placement under judicial supervision pending his trial, requested by the public prosecutor.

Contacted by AFP, one of his two lawyers did not wish to react and the second did not respond.

– “Conscience clear” –

The accusations against this real estate expert began in September, with the publication by Mediapart of the testimonies of three former partners, who denounced “humiliation, threats, verbal violence and, for two of them, physical violence”.

The Paris prosecutor’s office opened an investigation into domestic violence the following month, in October, after receiving letters from two of them “accusing violence committed during a relationship”, he indicated at the time.

The host firmly rejected these accusations. “I have a clear conscience, I continue and will continue to defend the cause of women,” he declared in December on his Instagram account.

“This fleeting moment will soon only be a distant memory. For the first time, I will finally be able to express myself, thank you,” the host wrote again on his Instagram account Tuesday morning, a few hours before being heard by police officers.

His lawyers, Hélène Plumet and Carlo Alberto Brusa, immediately published a press release, ensuring that Stéphane Plaza would “answer all the questions that arise and be able to establish that the accusations against him are completely unfounded”.

Initially a real estate agent, Stéphane Plaza became a star of the small screen when M6 propelled him in 2006 to the head of the show “Research apartment or house” then “Maison à vente” (2007) and “Chasseurs d’ appart'” (2015).

The chain’s boss Nicolas de Tavernost indicated that he would not take any sanctions against Stéphane Plaza after an internal investigation revealed “no evidence”.

Regularly named the French’s favorite presenter, he is one of the sure values of M6, bringing together several million viewers with his various programs.

In January 2022, the M6 group became the majority shareholder of its network of real estate agencies which has some 660 franchises across France.
